Goto Atlus America

Frequently Asked Questions
This covers the most-asked questions about Persona. Pretty self explanitory, I guess, so I'll get on with it.

What are the Ruins for?

Nothing, really. Seems to be just a place for you to explore, build up your levels, and find items.

How do you get into the locked room in Deva Yuga?

It will open once you have beaten Guido.

What was the Snow Queen Quest, and why was it taken out?

This section has been expanded and moved to it's own page, accessable from the Guides / Special Information section.

Uhm ... Is something odd about Mark?

Hmm. A black student at a Japanese school, in a city with no other black people? Well, he is indeed out of place; in the Japanese version, Mark was white, and had more of a silly 'clowny' stocking cap on instead of a baseball cap. Why, exactly, Mark was changed from white to black in the US vesion will probably never be understood. ^_^

I want Yuki back in my party! How do I get her?

Sorry, the ultra-calm and cool Yuki can't be gotten back after she leaves you the first time. You get her back for the Snow Queen Quest in the Japanese version, but since it's not in the US version, well ... there you go. It figures, one of the coolest characters has the least chances to be in your party...

Is there a secret character running around? What do I do with these Glove weapons?

Chris, school stud extraordinare, is a secret character.

Then how do I get him? Those bastards at Altus USA took him out, didn't they?

Uhm, no. He's in there. Instructions on how to get to him can be found in 'the Game' section.

Is it possible to see and do everything the in one playing of Persona?

Absolutely not. Persona was crafted so that it is impossible to see and do everything in one game. First of all, you would have to play the game four times to see how Chris, Alana, Brad, and Ellen react to all of the events that happen. Second, there are many, many small things that one would normally miss going through the game unless they spent a LOT of time wandering around and exploring everything. Also, you would have to play for a bazillion hours to get enough spell cards to not only create the normal Personas, but the hidden ones as well.

Whoa ... hidden Personas?!?

Yup. That's what the items that say, 'Use during Fusion and ???,' are for. (If you're using them without them causing an instant effect on the Persona that you are creating, you are wasting them. ^_^) I know how to get them all, but again, I can't say at this point. (Sucks working for a company who created a Persona strategy guide where you get access to all the cool info, doesn't it?) I'll just say that there are around twenty to twenty five of them, I would say offhand, and they range from a number of VERY demonic creatures (as in, a few incarnations of the devil himself), to the spirit of Alfred.

*sobs* Please tell us!

The hidden Persona page is now online, and over time I'll continue to fill in the answers to the different Personas until it's completed.

Do any of the other characters who seem important play bigger parts in the game?

My guess would have been T.J., but sadly, this bastian of purity and goodness is there for little more than atmosphere. Bruce and Selina play a part later on, and curiously, Chunk was a boss in the Snow Queen Quest.

Why is T.J.'s house on the map and enterable?

Once again, more pointing to T.J.'s bigger place in the game, but yet again it's for nothing. T.J.'s house is there for seemingly no reason whatsoever. A very strange choice of characters to give a visitable house to, but that's kooky Atlus Japan for you.

Damnit, I don't want Mark and Nate in my group! How do I get rid of 'em and get some real characters like Chris, Alana, and Ellen?

*blech* This is one of the few real faults I find with Persona: you get but ONE personal choice in which characters you have in your party. You can have Brad, Alana, Ellen, or Chris as your fifth character.

Getting Brad

When you rescue Brad and Mark from the Police Station, Brad asks if he can join you - simply say yes.

Getting Ellen

Say no to Brad at the Police Station, but before going to the factory, visit the subway. Ellen will be there, and she'll ask if she can join your party.

Getting Alana

Say no to Brad at the Police Station, and go to the factory. Alana will be there, and if you don't have a fifth character, Alana will join you wether you want her to or not.

Are the in-battle voices the original Japanese ones or re-recored ones?

The many voices in battle were indeed re-recorded for the US. Very nicely done and Japanese sounding, in my honest opinion.

Once, when Persona was starting, in the middle of the Atlus logo FMV, a strange bit of FMV with a piece of a mirror flying towards a frame came up. Why did it happen, and what was it from?

I'm happy to report that after hearing about it for a while, it actually happened to me once. The cinema is one from the Snow Queen Quest, which plays when you find another of the pieces of the mirror. Those cinemas, for some odd reason, seem to be the very first ones in the programming. So, what could be happening is, since they are so close to the beginning of the disk, maybe the Atlus logo is right before them, or on a very closely nearby track, and the machine is picking up the wrong FMV. Persona player Terry Lin has definatly seen this happen in the US version, meaning the FMV scenes are in the US version as well. (Take that as you will.)

What's the deal with this 'SEAN' guy on the back of the Persona case? There's already one character who was named, Atlus. Is this Sean guy another secret character?

No, sorry. It was just Atlus screwing around. ^_^

For the Personas, what is the '+#' after the Persona's experience level?

The number is the Persona's .. er .. level. *heh* The first number is the Persona's 'level', but the second number is their experience level, or their power level (whichever you wish to call it). The number runs from +1 to +8, and at +8, the Persona is as powerful as it can be.

So, all in all, what are the differences between the original Japanese version of Persona, and the American release?

Okay, lesse. Here's what I know of:

  • Snow Queen Quest Removed
  • Basic name changes for some characters
  • In-battle voices re-recorded
  • Mark changed from white to black
  • Main's hair changed from black to red
  • Mary's hair changed from dark brown to reddish-brown
  • Ellen's hair changed from black-red to blonde
  • Nate's hair changed from black to brown
  • Controller setup/layout changed
  • Random battles cut down quite a bit

Okay, you're the main character, which girl do you chase after for a date?

*thinks* That's a tough one. ^_^ Do I go for Doctor Beverly, the mature and valuptuous woman who could really take care of me and just oozes the signs of being a dominatrix? Do I go for the forbidden love of a teacher and profess my love for Mrs. Smith, who always seems to be so worried about me and care about me so much? The calm, sophisticated, mature and intellectual Yuki? The exotic and mysterious Ellen? The hot, wild and insatiable Alana? The hard working, honest and innocent T.J.? (I haven't included Mary, because Mark seems to have a liking for her, and I'm a nice guy.) I think, in the end, I'd have to go with Mrs. Smith. ^_^ What can I say?
