Sorry Atlus but this is an amature RPG. Whoever was on the creation staff did a good job at coming up with new idea but there is too many things that need to be changed. For instance, the fact that you have to travel with only four charecters for parts of the game just to get different charecters. What the hell is that?
I beat Suikoden and Beyond the Beyond. I have seen what the upcoming Squaresoft games can do. And all this tells me that this game will be left in the dust with Beyond the Beyond.
Everyone I talk to keeps saying, "It's stupid to try to find your way around a 3D maze. What a waist of time. How unreal!" I agree. This game will be destroyed when Square's so-called "big rain" finnaly hits the states. I hope that whatever you have planned for a sequal, you change some things. I have some suggestions:
1. Don't waist space! I know you think it's fun to make personas and spells but I think its a waist of time I could be spending kicking some bosses ass!
2. Tell who the weapon help before you have to spend money on it.
3. Put six people in the party insted of five. That means I could choose two different charecters to join my party.
These are just a few of the things that me and my friends agree....suck! Personally, I think Atlus put a lot of time into this one, but some of the features really are bad. I hope they decide to change things a little in their next game. I might buy it, if it comes out before FF7!!

First of all, the battle system. This sounds weird, but what I would really like is for Atlus to make getting spell cards give you experience, so that you wouldn't have to fight any monsters but the bosses if you were good at interacting with demons.

What I'd like in Persona 2:
#1: MORE Persona types, with wider spell variety. I can't get enough of manufacturing Persona.
#2: More selection in party development - I'd like to be able to have greater control over who or who isn't in my party and have more characters to choose from
#3: More boss fights. I consider these the real tests of my Persona manufacturing skills. Roborat in one round, baby. ;)
#4: More spectacular spell effects. Come on, damaging spells like HolyWhite, GustAll, and Eternity should look MUCH cooler.
#5: Finally, more game, period! More side quests enhance a a games longevity. Make 'em brutally difficult ala the Snow Queen quest, and make 'em rewarding in terms of character or Persona development for surviving.

I loved Persona. It was the best RPG I played since FF3. In Persona 2, the should get rid of the FMV sequences. Put in some anime sequences. It should have more characters, and only the main guy, if any, should be the only permanent character. Tell who can use a certain type gun and armor. It should be more suspenceful and more scary. The dark mood was great, but I thought it would be some type of thriller or horror game. The city should be bigger, add more shops and all of that. The music could be a bit better. Maybe a faster, metal type battle theme.

Well, I am sincerely very satisfied with the work of Persona although if they could reduce the loading times a bit that would be great, adding some cinemas to spice up the story would be an excellent idea too, and well hmmmmm I like the mazes but i really think that the 3 quarter graphics look better and I would like persona 2 more if it were a 3 quarter game in all moments instead of changing of perspective constantly

Persona 2 definately needs improved battles. They take a little too long and aren't drawn increadably well. But it should definately keep spell cards and that veiw in the game. Also never ever loose that "end of the world" gig. A very cool game only deserves a very cool sequel hopefully with about 2 or more Alternate Games! Like Snow Queen Quest! I also think that Atlas should release Persona again with Snow Queen Quest in it and let folks who already have Persona to know. That would rule wouldn't it?

I have only two serious complaints about Persona. First of all, PLEASE, let us have more of a choice over who is in our party in the next game! In Persona, only one out of the five characters are up to you. That's rediculous. The only mandatory characters should have been Main and Mary. Working with that, different quests, encounters, etc. could have taken place depending on who was in your party, which would have added more to its replayability. And it's easier to get to know and like a party when it's a group of the characters YOU want.
The other big thing I'd like to have changed are the cinema. DROP the CG stuff. The artwork in Persona is absolutely beautiful! Either have animated cinemas, or hell, even still screens, maybe with voice or something. It's such beautiful art, not only in the character artwork, but in the character and enemy sprites themselves. The only time that style of artwork isn't used in in the cinemas, which I think is a REAL shame. Add more cinema sequences, and make them that drawn artwork, not crappy CG!
Beyond that, make the storyline a bit more epic (like Square RPGs), and build the characters a bit more. Beef up the story a little, make the game a bit darker, maybe scarier, and I think it will be a wonderful game. The moody, depressive, dark atmosphere was a fresh change and REALLY added to the game - definatly keep it! I would also love to see the game play around more with the idea of judgement and the balance of good and evil - sort of what Ultima started doing. Have players get into situations where they have to make a judgement call where there is no right answer, and what they do has an effect on them in different ways. Or say, for example, you are in battle, and you've scared a demon and they are begging for your life. Have it matter wether you kill the demon, or run away and spare its life. In the same breath, have more questions asked of the player, and make them really effect the game, even in little ways. For example, in Persona, if you had not sided with Mark in the beginning of the game, maybe he wouldn't have re-joined up with you later. I think the idea of making the player make more serious, consequential decisions helps them to get into the game far, far better.

#1 Names next to the weapons/items dictating who can use them
#2 slightly upgraded combat system(explanation below)
Lets say you're attacking 2 Jack frosts and 3 Jack O's
Jack frosts are in front, Jack o's in back.
You have your main character attack the far left Jack O with Ice
because they're very succeptable to it and you have another character
use some other attack on the demons in general. Well, the other
character goes first and kills the Jack O that your main character was
going to hit. Here arises the flaw in the combat system as it is. Even
though there are 2 other Jack O's left, your main character will now
attack the Jack frosts because they are closer(if targeted opponent is
killed, closest enemy will be default target). So he uses Ice on the
Jack frost, it rebounds, he dies... Why? Because they should have made
the secondary target default to something in the same demon type(Jack'O
in this scenario) instead of closest demon.
Does that make sense? I described this to Brian at Atlus and he seemed
to understand what I meant :)
#3 You should not be able to equip a persona that a character is not
compatible with. Doesn't Igor know what he's doing ;)

I'm sure we all agree how good Persona is but we all have our fault with it. Here's why.
First, the game would be more fun if could choose who was in your group. Each person you could recuit would have their own advantages AND disadvantages that would be good or bad for your team. Also it could be more like FFIII or Suikoden where you could change characters at a home base like the school. There could be plenty of secret characters that you could get that would come along only if you did certain things just right (i.e. Ms. Smith, Tad, Tammy, Dean, Dr. Kotter, ect.).
Second, get rid of that CG! Animation is so much better! Along the same lines we need more cut-scenes (Anime-style).
Third, make it cover more ground. It basicly all takes place in one town (both towns are the same exept for little differences, Avidea World or whatever is in the school really).
Lastly and most importantly, don't change a thing! It's not the same game if you do. Your changing the characters with no reason and taking out basicly half the game is ludocrus! I would rather wait two extra months for a complete EXACT translation than get a rush job that shows it. If players want the game enough they'll reserve it at Christmas and wait awhile.
Dispite these problems the game was great! The two dimensions were very imaginative and the 3D dungeons were original and neat. I would like to see a total overhead game sometime, though. Even with it's falts Persona is a great game! It will keep me entertained for a long time with it's awesome reply value. Imagine how good it would have been if it was totaly complete. One last thing. An extra upgrade disk with the translated Snow Queen Quest would sure make a lot of gamers happy! *hint* *hint*
